"Designing Homes within context; the personal approach, the challenges & solutions to specific brief"
IAN CRITIEN
Partner CVCarchitecture, Malta
Three residential projects by CVC architecture have been selected for this presentation, each very different from the other. Firstly, they are each located in district contexts varying from Villa areas to a village core/old town context, and secondly they also vary greatly in plot size. Each of the projects will be presented through a look at the plans, diagrams and photographs whilst discussing the approach adopted to ensure the design sits well within its context and equally important, to satisfy the individual client’s briefs. The presentation will look at both the broader design layout scheme as well as the interior detailing, finishes and selection of materials of the selected projects.

The unexplored depth of architecture and its dynamic relationship with environmental factors can be better understood by working on a system section. The drawing, which we refer to as a "Deep Section," aims to explore the future of architecture. The 'Minus scale' concept can give us an orientation and perspective for deepening our knowledge of architecture-nature relationships. In our presentation, we will discuss the potential of this drawing through the METU Co-Work project, using a knowledge-based architectural approach.

It refers to a collection of projects located in Malta, namely Portomaso, Wurth Offices, Portomaso Laguna, and Tipico Buidling. The second part of the presentation focuses on a specific even more recent project in Malta, The Quad Central, and goes through how its innovative design made it an award winning project from inception.
"Vertical Urbanism"
MANUELA GATTO
Director ZAHA HADID Architects, UK
The presentation will focus on Zaha Hadid Architect’s vertical urbanism, as a way to reimagine high-rise architecture for the complexities of contemporary urban life. ZHA’s work signals a departure from traditional skyscraper designs rooted in the Fordist paradigm of functional segregation and repetitive layouts, advocating instead for structures that foster interaction, adaptability, and integration. Central to our vision is "parametricism," a design methodology that utilizes computational tools to create adaptable architectural forms. This approach allows for buildings that respond dynamically, promoting a cohesive yet diverse urban fabric.
