This involves adopting regenerative approaches inspired by natural cycles to replenish resources and protect biodiversity. The audience will gain insight into how architectural design can thrive without competing with global trends but rather by embracing local identity and authenticity. The lecture will showcase how strong architectural concepts can emerge from an understanding of place, materiality, and the skilled hands that bring them to life. The focus will be on the journey from concept to realization, emphasizing the role of materials, construction techniques, and the collaborations with skilled craftsmen and artists. Speaker

ARBER HAXHI

Founder ANDARAS studio, Albania

Main Idea: Based on the three projects—Yacht Premium Hotel in Saranda, Hotel Cape of Rodon, and the contemporary concrete villa in Qerret, Durrës—the following key architectural themes emerge:  1. Integration with Natural Surroundings; 2. Contemporary Minimalist Design; 3. Functional Luxury and Comfort. ANdaras Studio will highlight several key aspects of their architectural approach, as demonstrated in three notable projects:  1.Yacht Premium Hotel, Saranda:  • Innovative Design: The hotel’s minimalist architecture features a white façade with gently curved balconies, evoking the image of cruise ship decks.  • Material Usage: The design emphasizes dominant horizontal lines, with floor slabs that recede as they ascend, creating a diminishing height effect.  • Techniques: Interiors are furnished in neutral beige and gray tones, providing a spacious and relaxing atmosphere.

2. Hotel Cape of Rodon:  • Innovative Design: The hotel’s design harmoniously integrates with the surrounding forest, featuring staggered floors that follow the site’s natural slope, forming expansive terraces, Mediterranean gardens, pools, and sundecks.  • Material Usage: The contemporary architecture and interior design blend seamlessly with the natural environment, showcasing local materials and textures.  • Techniques: The lobby houses a bar with a terrace and an à la carte restaurant, connected to the main dining area by a central staircase.

3. Contemporary Concrete Villa, Qerret, Durrës:  • Innovative Design: The villa’s sophisticated minimalist design emphasizes the use of exposed concrete, creating a modern aesthetic.  • Material Usage: Exposed concrete is used for both partitions and slabs, ensuring the villa harmoniously blends into the horizon.  • Techniques: The two-story structure includes a ground floor with ample parking, technical areas, a gym, and a wine cellar. The L-shaped upper floor houses a spacious living area, kitchen, dining space, and three large bedrooms, each with dedicated wardrobes and bathrooms. Expansive panoramic windows blend the interior with the surrounding nature. These projects exemplify ANdaras Studio’s commitment to innovative design, thoughtful material selection, and techniques that harmonize architecture with natural landscapes.
